Brad Penny allowed seven hits over seven innings and Los Angeles broke open a tight game with consecutive three-run innings against Jorge Sosa, handing New York its fifth straight loss, 9-1 on Wednesday night. Penny (8-1) struck out seven and lowered his ERA to 2.18, second-best in the NL behind Jake Peavy’s 1.82 for San Diego.
