John Smoltz had surgery Tuesday to repair the labrum in his right shoulder and his hopes for a comeback in 2009 remain uncertain. Dr. James Andrews and an associate performed the arthroscopic procedure. Smoltz said last week he expected to get a definitive word on his comeback hopes from the operation, but no such announcement followed the procedure.
